One of the most exciting features of our testing is that our analysis pipelines are in a constant state of change and improvement. Over time our reference database, to which your autosomal DNA is compared, will also grow and become more detailed.
This means that we can continuously work on your results and they can be reprocessed and updated, allowing you to see a more refined view. Once an update has been carried out, your percentages may change to reflect new information in our reference datasets. These updates can happen at any time so it's always exciting to log in and check on your results.
All family ancestry results are estimates, based on comparing your DNA to our current range of reference samples and we do expect any changes to mean your results are more accurate and in-line with your true ancestry.
Many populations are themselves formed from a mixture of other populations. Our algorithm will attempt to match you directly to a population or region where we have it in our reference database. If we do not have it or we have a low sample size for a region, or if there is further population structure within that region, then we are likely to assign some ancestry to the populations that contributed to that region.
So if you see a call in your results that does not make sense to you, please take the time to read the information for that region on your portal by clicking it. We have included notes to help you understand the populations in that region, including the donor populations that have contributed to it.
